I am extremely excited about this next project that we involved with called ‘Ekatva – Oneness: The Journey of 16 Slum Children’. Ekatva is an experiment to touch the lives and spirit of 16 underprivileged children through dance and art, while inspiring the souls of thousands across the world.
Sixteen children from some of the largest slums of Ahmedabad, Gujarat will perform a 90-minute dance-drama production sharing Mahatma Gandhi’s message of ‘Oneness’. After one year of training and development, the children are ready to tour the show across India, the US, and the UK. Through this journey we hope to spread seeds of goodness and compassion throughout the world and inspire our global citizens to serve and care for those in need.
The kids are quickly developing into confident, loving citizens, students, family members and artists. We hope this project helps uproot the children beyond the glass ceiling they have been placed under; provides a journey where their spirit is transformed so they can push beyond what is expected of them; and inspires their own community and the larger world to realize the strength and beauty that exists in every child of their plight.
Every week to the run up of the shows in the UK, we will be bringing you the profiles of each of the children along with details of where and when the shows will be taking place.
If you would like to get involved with the UK tour project either in terms of fund raising and/or other possible activities please email uk@ekatva.org

This week, meet Asha!
Asha is tall, a little stubborn, charismatic, and has a bright and beautiful smile. Asha’s family lives in Shankar Bhuvan, a slum area in Ahmedabad known for its tough crowd, and rough living conditions. Two years ago, Asha’s parents eagerly took the chance to put Asha and her younger sister in the children’s hostel at Gandhi Ashram.
“I wanted to get a good education so I can move ahead in life”
Asha had a hard time adjusting and many times felt like running away. She is not used to being around those who value education. Through the support of Manav Sadha and the EKATVA journey she has become more focussed on her education, has a dream of becoming a doctor and plays one of the most applauded roles in the EKATVA show.
