Swati Natekar presents ‘A rare treat’  An evening of Ghazal, Thumri, Bhajan & Indian Classical RECITAL 29th September

An outstanding female Indian Classical vocalist, Swati has been trained by her mother & Guru, the Late Dr. Sushila Pohankar in Indian Classical & Light Classical music.  Swati Natekar is one of the most respected voices in Indian Music in the UK, and known as the voice of “Nadia” on Nitin Sawhney’s Mercury nominated album “Beyond Skin”.  She has also worked with artists to include Craig Armstrong (Composer of Hollywood movies ‘Moulin Rouge’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’), Jakatta (“American Dream” – which was no. 3 in the UK main charts), Ustad Zakir Hussain, Talvin Singh, Niraj Chag (Khwaab), Sonu Nigam, Muzaffer Ali & many more. Swati has toured and performed extensively in U.K., Europe, Caribbean, South Africa, India & Pakistan.  She has also performed at venues such as WOMAD, Glastonbury and is a highly reputed artist on the World Music scene.  Swati’s voice also features on Hollywood movie ‘The In-Laws’, a Warner Brothers Movie starring Michael Douglas, ‘The Republic Of Love’ directed by Deepa Mehta and the BBC TV Theme music for the Commonwealth Games 2010.

Soulful Sounds with Mehboob Nadeem & Hanif Khan RECITAL 31st October

Join us for an evening of soulful music with Mehboob Nadeem and Hanif Khan. Mehboob will be providing vocals and playing the Sitar whilst accompanied by the versatile Hanif Khan on Tabla.  The AMC is delighted to welcome these two widely respect  musicians who are amongst the most talented in the UK.

Mehboob Nadeem was born into a highly illustrious family of traditionalmusicians of the Agra Gharana.  Endowed with a rich melodious and sonorous voice, Mehboob was initiated in the art of music at a very young age by his father Ustad Yakub Hussain.  He then began his Sitar training under the guidance of his uncle Shri Rafat Khan.  Mehboob possesses a keen, aesthetic sense and a matured ability in the development and rendering of a raga. Under the devoted teaching of his Guru and mentor Pandit Arvind Parikh he has excelled in perfecting the techniques and style of the legendary sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan.  Hanif Khan is a versatile and innovative Tabla player based in London.  He is equally at ease accompanying some of India’s most successful and celebrated artists, as he is collaborating with upcoming Fusion Projects.  Hanif Khan was trained from a young age in the Delhi style Gharana under the tutelage of his renowned Father, Usted Hideyat Khan.

The AMC Education Programme - Learn.  Create.  Share.

The AMC aims to bring the finest classical and contemporary music reflecting the diverse traditions from Asia to the widest possible audience.  The AMC is passionate about music education and working with people of all ages to develop greater cultural awareness.  We believe creative learning and cultural events play a key part in a persons learning and development.  Throughout the year we deliver a broad range of educational events, workshops and screenings including themes as diverse as Asia itself.
Learning & Participation
  • Learn how to compose & write lyrics, to produce & market an album ormusic event.
  • Create abstract animations from 16mm film & shadow puppetry; devise film soundtracks & build instruments.
  • Share Performance Poetry, Storytelling & Spoken Word, choreography & dance.

The AMC is happy to devise bespoke sessions that meet specific age, ability or curricular requirements.  Our educational events, workshops and screenings can be delivered to your door or in our Music Room at the Museum of AsianMusic.
